THINGS I LOVED:

  1. The Boys are Back in Town
And they are in suits! Spiffy.

  2. Gentle!Sammy
This frame. Check out Sam's hand on Dean's arm and his other hand engulfing Dean's smaller hand as he takes the hex bag from him.

I've already made icons & I'll post them later.
    Sneak peek:

  3. Poor Bugs
Dean's reaction as he turned around and came face to face with the dead bunny was priceless. Poor little guy.

  4. RUBY!!!
Hi, my name is Katy and I love Ruby. I get the feeling some people may think I need therapy for this little issue. I've seen so many negative things written about the character (and actress). The fact that she's there to help the boys earns her major brownie points and I really do think she's there to help the boys. After all, she's not like the other demons. The scenes involving Dean and her were wonderful.

  5. All demons were once human
Still a bit of processing to do on this one but I like this theory. It gives me hope that demons have a chance to be redeemed. If someone helps them they can claw their way back to their former human self. This makes me feel a lot better about Sam and his fate. But at the minute, not so much about Dean's. What I don't get is, what makes Ruby different.

  6. Supernatural Action Figures or Batman & Robin
The way the boys came zooming up in the Impala and jumped out to save Mr. Dutton. Oh, boys.

  7. Detective Bachman & Detective Turner
They must have so much fun making up false Ids.

  8. You're the shortbus, shortbus
What are they? Seven? I really liked Ruby and Dean's exchange after she had saved his life. On first viewing, however, I had no idea what word they used to insult each other. I thought it was 'shortbus' but that just made no sense to me. It was only this morning when I looked 'shortbus' up on Urbandictionary.Com, that all became clear. Now I freakin' love that scene. That makes me a bad person, right? So not politically correct.

  9. Dean cannot be saved
No, I don't love that Dean cannot be saved. What I love is that Ruby confirmed it. I believe Dean has been thinking all along something will come up, that someone will find a way to save him and he won't have to go to hell. So far he's been resting any such hope on Sammy and Bobby. Why? Well, besides knowing his little brother is far too stubborn to give up and to just accept Dean's fate, it was in no small part because of what Ruby told Sam. All that hope has now been dashed.

  10. Quotes:
Dean: "And why's the rabbit always get screwed in the deal? Poor little guy."

Ruby: "Put a leash on your brother, Sam, if you want to keep him."

    Dean: "You black eyed skank!"

    Ruby: "It's called witchcraft, shortbus."
    Dean: "You're the shortbus, shortbus."

    Dean: (mouthing) "Told you so."

THINGS I LIKED:

  1. The Dutton household gets added to the Easter Bunny's schedule
Losing teeth has never been so horrific. Gross.

  2. Music
It's true. Every rose has it's thorn.

  3. Witches
Hey, did anyone else keep expecting (wishing) Willow would turn up and start defending witches? Perhaps I just really wanted to hear Dean start singing, "Which is ridiculous because witches they were persecuted, wicca good, and love the earth, and woman power and I'll be over here..." in an attempt to appease her.

  4. Tammy
She got to do the one thing I wanted to do Renee. Go Tammy! But, who exactly is was she?
She did confirm there is definitely division in the demon ranks. Those who think Sammy should be the leader and those who don't.

THINGS I DID NOT SO MUCH CARE FOR:

  1. Bloody wrists
Now, I'm enjoying season three's new 'more blood, the better' policy but the slit wrists was a little more than I wanted to see. Having said that, the shot taken from below, of Amanda laying on the glass table with the pools of blood around her arms and Dean looking over her shoulder was rather striking.

  2. Mrs. Renee. Van Allen.
I so wanted to slap her. Hard.

THINGS I'VE BEEN LEFT TO PONDER

  1. Dean's Amulet.
Is there really any magic in it? If that amulet is for protection it's doing a shitty job.

  2. Mary
Is it possible Mary was a witch? Or at some stage she was a witch, who left her coven and the Demon she sold her soul to?

  3. A new leader rising in the west.
Who? What? When? This show is beginning to do my head in.

I'm glad there are other people out there who like Ruby too :)
No, I don't trust her either but I think she's going to be a help to the boys in the long run.
'Shortbus' still makes me laugh. I can see it creeping into my vocab... only problem being no one will know what I'm talking about. *lol*
Buffy musical episode! \O/

"Detective Bachman & Detective Turner
They must have so much fun making up false Ids"

And the writers of SN making up the name in real life.

As Bachman Turner Overdrive is a real good classic rock band lol.

Yes, exactly. :)
I love all the different alias' they use. You just know 'Dean' is the one who comes up with them. If it was 'Sam', it's more likely they'd use something like Detective Benny Andersson and Detective Björn Ulvaeus.
(Didn't Jared say at Fangoria, he thought Sam listened to lots of ABBA? :)

The whole sequence only takes about ten frames to play out and it was only when I started collecting screen caps that I noticed it. I actually said 'awwwwwww' out loud ;)

Love your commentaries, they are so well organised!
Ok, I'll put my two cents here 'cause I don't want to make my own ;)
First: I LOVE RUBY TOO! You are not alone hon, on this ep I think she was pretty cool, and the actress was too. I loved the final DeanRuby exchange (they look kinda good together too...), and I'm not sure about Ruby good faith either...
One thing is, usually our show isn't so subtle, so I 'm probably deluding myself thinking that she may be trying to betray them later...I think (as they put it) she is a demon that remembered her humanity, and that's why she turning against the others...don't you think?
Your idea about Mary is interesting...only I wouldn't know why her soul/spirit/whatever was still wandering around the house?
Dean's 'poor little guy' was priceless ^^', how cute is he?!?!
And in short I think it was a pretty cool episode, the guest actors were all good imo (I liked the good witch), the mythology is going forward fast (finally), the boys had a lot of interesting interactions, and Ruby was amazing. What more do you want?
I think next episode has the potential to be lots better anyway...I'm so excited!!!
Oh, another thing...I haven0t ever thought Dean's amulet may be charmed or something? But maybe it could come handy in the future...maybe it's some device that keeps the memory of the oerson who wears it (delusional thinking on my part, as usual).

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I don't think they are organised at all! *lol* I only break it down into 'love', 'like', etc. because I never know where to start and I can never put my thoughts into coherent paragraphs. :)

Yay! Another fan of Ruby :) Ruby and Dean was great together. I loved that in each of their four scenes together, their interactions were so different. The boys still need to be wary of Ruby. I don't trust her completely but I do think she's there to help them, even though her motives may not be pure. I'm sure there is something in it for her... We just haven't figured out what that is. Yet.

I'd forgotten about Mary still being in the house back in Lawrence. Has that ever been explained on the show? I can't recall.

The way Dean said "Poor little guy" was adorable. He tries so hard to give off this tough guy image it figures he'd get all upset over a fluffy little bunny ;)

The amulet being charmed is just pure speculation. Before we knew where Dean go it the fact that he always wore it meant it either: a). Had a specific purpose, or b). It meant something special to him. I guess now we know Sammy gave it to him we can assume it does mean something special to him. Therefore, perhaps it isn't charmed at all. But besides Bobby giving it to Sam to give to his Dad, we don't know where it came from.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode like you would not believe! :)

From: [identity profile] thandie.livejournal.com

I believe Ruby is hiding something too...but I'm still not sure about her. I watched their last dialogue again, and the more I see her, the more I'm less convinced she's telling the truth. That's very intriguing, I guess she is going to play with them a lot :)

Nothing was explained about Mary, yet, I'm srure Kripke had said in some interview they were going to in this season, but thanks to the endless strike we won't get to see it I think.

Dean is such a marshmallow inside...I *heart* him so much :)

About the amulet, I think it's a simple thing Bobby gave Sam to give to his dad, but maybe they'll play with it more, because there's a lot of potential!I hope we get to discover it means something.

I'm actually COUNTING the days, waiting for the next ep, god this show has turned me into a 13 years old I swear! Thanks god I still retain enough sense of self to feel ASHAMED about myself ;)

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Do you think Ruby is lying about not being able to save Dean?
If she told Dean she could save him, there would be no need for Dean to help her with Sam and unless she blackmailed Dean with his own rescue he wouldn't help her.
By telling him she can't help him, she is relying on Dean's protective nature towards Sammy to kick in and do everything he can to help Sam prepare for after he's gone.
So, yeah, perhaps she's just playing him.
Arrgh! Now I trust her even less. But I still really like her ;)

The issue I have with the amulet is it sounds as if it's just something they've made up as they've gone along. Jensen once said he and one of the costume designers found it in a box of trinkets and they thought it was cool and that's why Dean wears it. It wasn't originally written as part of the story. I don't think they could have known fans would notice the amulet and hang on to until they found out what it meant. Kripke then had to 'write' a story around it and I think he came up with a good one :)

I know what you mean about this show reducing you to a 13 year old fan girl. No need to feel ashamed about it though :) That would mean I should feel ashamed but I don't :P

4. I really like Ruby too, and after this ep I like her even more. She continues to intrigue me. I think Katie Cassidy is doing a good job with the character.

5. I know Ruby said all the demons she knows were once human, but I wonder if it's true across the board, and how that fits in with the hierarchical eye color.
5. a) I also wonder about redeeming demons, maybe as a tool in the war. It's very Star Wars/Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker-esque.

7. If Sam is Bachman and Dean is Turner, the Impala is definitely Overdrive.

Things to ponder, #3. I'm betting on Meg.

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

One thing I'm sure of is Ruby didn't just say all the demons she knows were once human as a 'throw away' line. It's not a definite answer one way of the other and it's hard to know if she was lying on purpose (she might have heard there are demons who did not start off as human but she doesn't actually 'know' them or she's just making it up) or if she honestly believes it's the way things are.

I hope we get to see more of Ruby because I want to understand why she's not like the other demons. With Sam and his demon blood, and Dean going to hell (love your icon, btw) they both face the possibility of ending up living the demon lifestyle. Ruby and her past raises the question as to how much of the lifestyle they'll embrace.

Actually, there is a second thing I'm sure of... This mytharc is getting complicated. *g*

Impala is Overdrive. *lol* Good one :)

Meg! I can't believe I keep forgetting about Meg.

From: [identity profile] impala-chick.livejournal.com

FINALLY watched it!! I will make my epic post later. :D

2. OMFFFFG YES *SQUEEEEEEEEEE*
6. hehe. *g*
9. Good point! I know Kripke is going to leave us to the very last second on this one...

What I don't get is, what makes Ruby different.
ME EITHER. That was TOTALLY not explained.

I WANTED TO SLAP RENEE TOO. Grrrr.

INORITE? Dean's amulet is frustrating, becuase right when we find out something about it, we are left with a million more questions and things aren't adding up. And I've been thinking about the possibility of Mary being a witch, too. I think my sister actually brought it up over the summer. Anyway, that would explain how she knows the YED. And maybe she was supposed to die since she sold her soul, so Sam was destined because of something she did? I find it hard to believe that John would have no idea after all these years, but there's got to be something special about Mary...

DUDE, I WANT TO KNOW WHO THE OTHER LEADER IS!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Woah! It must have been so painful waiting so long to see this episode and extremely tough to avoid spoilers! I have to wait 12-15 hours and that's bad enough :)

I don't think we've heard the last of Ruby or her past. Hopefully all will be revealed at some point.

John not knowing about Mary's secret past or special abilities may not be so far fetched. John didn't grow up surrounded by the Supernatural and before Mary was killed he would have had no reason in the world to suspect monsters or anything supernatural really existed. When Sam was at Stanford, he managed to keep his former life a secret from Jess. Sure, they hadn't been together as long as Mary and John but Sam successfully removed himself from his past for at least couple of years before Dean showed up. Mary may have done the same thing, or thought she had, until her past caught up with her.

I look forward to reading your epic post :)

From: [identity profile] impala-chick.livejournal.com

Ya, it was. :/ I pretty much had to stay off of flist AND not get to watch the show, but at least I got to watch it eventually.

Ya, I hope we learn more about her. Then it'd be less like she just dropped out of no where.

Oh, good point! John would have no reason to suspect and Sam was able to keep the past a secret from Jess. Hmmmm. I wonder if something like this would have crossed John's mind after he became a hunter, though.
