Supernatural 3x03 - Seven things I loved, Two things I liked and two things I did not so much care for.

SEVEN THINGS I LOVED:

  1. "She knows what your weakness is. It's me."

Possibly the sweetest and one of the most revealing thing Dean, or Sammy for that matter, has ever said. The conversation the boys had by the Impala, at the end of AHBL2, was the point in time I believe Dean realised Sammy feels exactly that same way about him, as he does about Sam. Dean acknowledges this in his 'weakness' comment and it also shows he's already been forced to change his attitude significantly since the first episode of this season.

  • Sammy telling Dean about Ruby.
I didn't expect Sammy to tell Dean about Ruby. He still didn't tell him about Mary, but at least he told him the important Demon part.

  • Sammy's funny hand signals.
Just a little thing, but I love how hard Dean seemed to be concentrating on the sign Sammy was making while on the phone getting the details about the storage container. Turns out Sammy wanted a pen. *lol*

  • John Winchester's Secret Storage Container.
When he was in the 6th/7th Grade, Sammy played soccer. When Dean was in the 6th Grade, he made sawed-off shotguns. Either the Supernatural fandom, as a whole, has been extremely attuned to the little clues provided about the Winchester's childhood, or the writers of the show read fanfic. These two little glimpses into the boys' pasts seem to support the general consensus that Dean embraced a hunter's way of life from the get-go, whereas Sammy never really did. Whether it was because Sammy was shielded from a large part of it by Dean or he chose to rebel, or a combination of both, we don't know. I'm still holding on to hope we will get to see a flashback episode. A typical day in the life of the wee!Winchesters. In light of Dean's deal, this season would seem to present the perfect opportunity to take a look back over their lives.

One item, in the storage container, I couldn't figure out, was the piano. Was a cursed piano? Did Mary play the piano? Was there a piano in 'What is and What Should Never Be'?

  • The Funny.
After the opener with Gordon, I expected drama and trouble. After the conversation the brothers has in the Impala about Ruby, I expected conflict. After the phone call regarding John's secret storage locker, I expected angst. What I did not expect was the ensuing funniness. OMG! And this episode was funny from Sammy's pathetically bad luck - "I lost my shoe" - to Dean's hilarious good luck - "I'm Batman!". Jared played the out-of-luck Sammy perfectly. He made me feel so bad for Sam. Jared doesn't usually get much opportunity to play the funny card, which is a shame, because he does it so damn well. I think his, "Yeah, you're Batman" was as funny, if not funnier than Dean's Batman declaration. *lol*

  • More gore
*peaks through fingers* Is it safe to watch yet?
    First: Draino.
    Second: A bench saw.
    Third: A BBQ fork!
Oh, man. We still have 19 episodes to go! What's next? I can't wait!

  • Bobby!
Wow. Appearing in two out of three episodes, 'ain't bad. FTW. And he's been around, hasn't he. He knew about Bela. Makes me wonder what else does he know about 'their World', that the boys don't. It begs the question, why don't the boys know about other hunters and such? Is it because John never told them or did John not know himself? Oh, hang on. He did know about other hunters, at least, because he knew about the Roadhouse (where's Ellen?) and he went hunting with Bill... and he obviously knows Bobby, Caleb, Pastor Jim, etc. There must have a been a reason he kept that side of it, for the most part, a secret from his boys. And there must also be a reason he felt he could tell Dean and Sammy about those hunters/friends he did.

  • TWO THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Gordon's Back

I think I like that Gordon's back. Gordon is not rational and his obsession with killing Sammy is most disturbing. I genuinely fear for the boys when he's around. At the moment, he is behind bars, but with the help of the equally wacky Kubrick, I don't think he'll be in the big house for too much longer. I also liked Kubrick, once I'd figured out where I knew him from. (He played Vernon Ephesian in X-Files - "The Field Where I died."

  • Bela
I've put Bela under the 'like' category here but, again, I'm not sure. I definitely don't like her as much I immediately liked Ruby. Bela's smart and hot and looks like she's going to be a real pain in the butt for Dean and Sammy but that's as far I can see her going. She's just going to get in the way, right? More of an annoyance than anything else. I'll wait and see though.

  • TWO THINGS I DID NOT SO MUCH CARE FOR:

    1. The Obvious and Contrived

Is it just me, or is it extremely obvious what's going to happen next, this season? The saw, from last week, and the BBQ fork from this week are prime examples. Okay, perhaps they make it obvious for those kind of scenes, so those who are squeamish can squirm in their seats, cover their eyes with their hands (or the eyes of their children) and peak tentatively through their fingers at the images on the screen. Which just happens to be exactly what I do. But an example in this week's episode which grated for me, was the scene where Kubrick and his offsider, are looking on-line for somewhere to eat. They just happened to look at the restaurant where Dean and Sammy had their photo on the front page. I guess it was meant to be a message from God, right? I don't know. It didn't quite work as a scene for me. It was way too contrived.

  • Where's the classic rock tracks?
Did they use their music budget up in the previous two seasons?

    # He played Vernon Ephesian in X-Files - "The Field Where I died."
OMG THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT TO ME.
I'd say we get along nicely on the eps reviews. Only thing I want for next episode is a little bit of ANGST, you know? The good heavy 'Devil's trap' kind, but maybe it's early still and I'm already missing Dean's single pretty tear TM ;)
I guess they have spoiled me last seasons, I can't bear all this comedy!
Jokes apart, I still feel like I need to tune up with this season you know? Like I don't know what to expect from these Sam and Dean, they are quite different, but we haven't got a good look at what they are thinking about still. I'd say the writers are still keeping on the outside for now, and I'm lookoing forward to some insights.
I read some spoilers for ep 10 (?) I think and it looks like by then we should expect some good stuff.
I SO want John to make some appereance in the flashback *tears*

About the new characters, I can't say I care for them, Kubrick seems to be a little sketchy for now, but maybe we'll get some more. And Bela is cool enough that she could be a good stress reliever for Dean in the uncoming eps if he sticks to his edonistic ways...I can't say I hate the idea, she looks pretty hot and fickle and we SURE wouldn't risk for the two of them to become a couple or something like that. It wouldn't be something too heavy on the season's mood I mean...
Anyway, I want more Ruby!! I hope next ep she'll be there :)Where's the classic rock tracks?
LOL, I had the SAME thought. Anyway, if I EXCLUDE that action track in ep 2, for now I've liked a lot the background music. It's pretty light in a clever way. And the angsty tracks are pretty for now.
