THINGS I LOVED:
- Sera Gamble
She is so ace. How did we get so lucky with the writers on our show?
- The Kinks!
Best use of a song since 'Carry on My Wayward Son' and 'Renegade'.
Thanks to this episode I've had 'A Well Respected Man' in my head all weekend, punctuated by choruses of 'Lola'.
If one of the writers manage to work 'Lola' into an episode I'm going be super impressed. - Dean Wearing Stripy Pyjamas

- Supernatural Wardrobe Department
Whoever decided Jensen would look good in this ensemble deserves a pay rise, a very large bonus and one of those little 'Employee of the Month' plaques.

- Dean Drinking Rice Milk Lattes
LOL! - Jensen Ackles

- Tech Support Sam
If Sam Wesson was a Tech Support guy where I work, I'm pretty sure I'd have trouble printing All The Time.
- Sam: "...I only moved here because I just broke up with my fiancé Madison but I called her number and I got a damn animal hospital."
Who said the angles don't have a sense of humour? *giggles*
I'm betting Zachariah is the class clown during those heavenly decoupage workshops. - Ghostfacers!
This was definitely my favourite appearance of The Ghostfacers so far.
"Winchester Douche Nozzles" Hee!Hee! - Jared Padalecki

- 1x01 Pilot v. 4x17 It's a Terrible Life
From 1x01 - Pilot
(Looking for the Woman in White on the bridge)
Dean: "You can pretend all you want Sammy but sooner or later you're gonna have to face up to who you really are."
Sam: "Who's that?"
Dean: "You're one of us."
Sam: "NO. I'm not like you. This is not going to be my life."
From 4x17 - It's a Terrible Life
a) Zachariah (to Dean): "All I'm saying is, it's how you look at it. Most folks live and die without moving anything more than the dirt it takes to bury them. You get to change things. Save people. Maybe even the World. All the while you drive a classic car and fornicate with women. This isn't a curse. It's a gift. So for God's sake Dean, quit whining about it. Look around. There are plenty of fates worse than yours. So you with me? You want to go steam yourself another latte? Or are you ready to stand up and be who you really are."
It was awesome to hear Dean's words thrown back at him some four years later. The attention to detail on this show is amazing.
b) Sam (to Dean): "All I know is, this isn't who we're supposed to be..." "We're supposed to be something else. You're not just some corporate douche bag. This isn't you..."
In 1x01 Sam is running away from a hunter's life. In 4x17 he's running to it. - Destined To Be Together

It was almost like they were brothers again and yet they didn't even know each other. They were just so in sync with each other during this episode.
Even if they can't remember each other, they still need to be together. - Dean's Fake Family
Dean: "No, I'm Dean Smith, OK. Director of Sales and Marketing. I went to Stanford. My father's name is Bob, my mother's name is Ellen, and my sister's name is Jo."
Even if they won't/can't bring Ellen back it gives me warm fuzzy feelings knowing they haven't forgotten about her completely. *smishes the Smith Family*
BTW, I still want Ellen back. I'm never going to give up that dream. - Zachariah
Castiel's boss, Zachariah, takes time out from doing arts and crafts in Heaven, to mosey on down to Earth and strap himself into a smelly body, to deliver a very specific message to Dean:
Suck it up, Princess!
Of course, he says it a lot nicer and it's actually quite a positive experience for them both. Except perhaps that part about Dean's 'Daddy Issues'. Dean didn't so much care for that.
THINGS I LIKED:
- The Gore
People microwaving their heads. People stabbing themselves in the jugular with pencils. People getting decapitated by elevators! \O/
It's been a while since I had to cover my eyes and look away from the screen like I did during the elevator scene.
I've watched the episode three times now and haven't been able to watch that scene once! \O/ - Did you just call me Sammy???
LOL! - Dean doesn't have any beer
LOL! - Colour My World
I really liked how the colour fades when Zachariah touches Dean's forehead.

I'm sure it means something and if I was smart I could probably figure it out. ;) - Responsibility v. Destiny
Zachariah (to Dean): "To prove to you the path you are on is truly in your blood. You're a hunter. Not because you're dad made you. Not because God called you back from hell but because it is what you are. And you love it. You will find your way to it in the dark every single time and you're miserable without it. Dean, let's be real here, you're good at this. You'll be successful. You will stop it."
Dean has always felt it's his responsibility to carry on the work his dad did but is that really the case? Is it his destiny calling after all.

the boys looked amazing. I loved the face, the hair, the clothes... everything!
it was funny, hilarious, nice but it managed to send out an important message anyway.
I kind of think Dean needed a little shove so I agree with this little lesson from the angels. :)
and the ghostfacers? OMG they cracked me up! XD
Also..... most wincesty episode ever!!!!
I really expected them to do it in the elevator. :))))

It's was brilliant from the get go. I wasn't too sure about Sam in his 'lemon' polo shirt to start with but it grew on me. Didn't they put him in the same colour yellow in 'What is and What Should Never Be'?
With the way last week's episode ended with Dean telling Castiel he couldn't do it and he needed to find someone else to stop Lucifer and the apocalypse, I was wondering how they were going to 'fix' Dean. Hopefully, Zachariah's little pep talk does Dean the world of good. :)
The Ghostfacers were at their funniest. XD
I really expected them to do it in the elevator. :))))
There's always the outtakes. ;D

you know that you make me think about you might be right... maybe for the writers that's the colour Sam should wear in an alternatve reality. XD
exactly. something needed to be done. :)
TRUE. I THINK WE'LL GET A LOT OF "I love you/love you too" in this year gag reel. XD
*hugs back*

Jensen in that odd colorful ensemble is the hottest thing ever. I mean, how he does that? RED and BLUE suit the boy, so they probably though 'let's put both on him!!!'.
No really, how PRETTY was Jensen with the color of this episode?
And Sam's FACE covered in blood. LOL. 'Call you later'.
I also appreciated all the parallels they made! It seemed such a simple ep at first glance, but then details started gnawing at me, and now I could write an essay with all the things I gathered from this one! It was the one with the most significance imo, and that is because the boys are just the boys, without the destiny of the world weighing them down and making them act in a certain way....but still, there are some things that can't change. Like indeed the fact that Sam is the one that discovers things are wrong, and he's the one that drags Dean back into it. And maybe this means the angels too realised that Dean needs Sam to do what he has to?
ALSO. I found it unbearably sad, but oddly true, that Dean, when NOT knowing that Sam is his bro and his responsibility, finds the strenght to send him away without really hesitating so much! Yes, he feels guilty possibly, but he sends Sam away because they have different takes on the subject, and he doesn't even call him back!
And Sam wanting Dean at all costs in this gig, because they are connected, that was infact Dean in the pilot. Awesome details, really.
Sorry for the essay bb! This episode just really blew my mind.

The colouring was very different in the beginning but then as they got closer to figuring things out the closer it got to the boy's reality. Dean's shirts were less bold as the episode went on and their surroundings got a little darker. It was cleverly shot.
Poor Sam getting splattered in blood like that! His squeaky, "I'll call you back" was adorable. Sam? Squeamish? Never! LOL!
There was certainly lots to this episode and because of that it can be enjoyed on so many different levels. You could it view purely as a comedy episode, a light hearted pause in the angst, or look at it in much more depth like you have. :D
I think the angles made sure it was Sam who dragged Dean back into it for a reason. Had it been Dean who had the 'dreams' he would have had more to go on. As it turned out, something inside him told him to believe Sam from basically the get-go. As soon as he saw that ghost in the bathroom he knew what he had to do and that was to help Sam.
Nice observation about Dean sending Sam away.
Drop by with an essay anytime. :)

13. Sam names someone he actually had a relationship with as his fiancee, Dean lists Ellen, the closest thing he's had to a mother figure, and Jo, who he viewed like a sister, but he gives Bob as the name of his father and not John. Interesting...

I wonder if it was the angels? Whomever it came from, I thought it was interesting that the writer made that choice.

That was one awesome episode. Smith & Wesson.
*hates elevators*
It is my opinion that the color transition when Zachariah touched Dean & brought him back probably was just transition from bright, shiny office worker world back to darker, grayer Hunters' world.
Can't wait for Thursday's episode.

Dean's line from the pilot about, "who you really are", has always stood out for me so when Zachariah said it back to him I was all, "HAH! That's a 180 spin we've done over the past four years.
I'm sure there are so many details we miss in each episode. If only we caught catch it all. :)

Corporate douchebag!Dean FTFW! The opening montage with him playing golf in his office, talking on his blue tooth headset, discussing Project Runway, and exchanging recipes over the phone. OMG! I thought I was going to die. LOL!
Sera is incredible. No disrespect to the other writers on the show because they are all freakin' excellent but how ace would it be if Sera wrote every episode? I suspect our brains (or hearts) couldn't handle it but it's a nice thought. :)
Smith & Wesson, Madison's number being for the animal hospital, decoupage, making Dean h-so-healthy was all the angel's doing, right? Zachariah just has to pop down for another visit!

LOL, the show would become one BigBang fanfic f'reals. I WOULD LOVE IT!! [But I'm guessing Kripke wants some variety. The party pooper, lol. *pouts*]
Ahaha, totally. Throwing out all the carbs in the house and doing his "cleanse". Sam's face when he said that was priceless. XDDD And Sam being all "CALL YOU BACK" after he got splattered with blood. LOLOL. Best.
And yes, Zachariah totally has to come back. I LOVE THAT MAN. Angel. SAME THING. :P
