Winnie is back home after her operation. I picked her up about three hours ago. The operation went fine and she is doing OK.

She has one of those plastic collars on to stop her from licking and chewing her stitches. She doesn't like the bucket at all and really, who can blame her? It took her all of 10 minutes to wiggle out of it. I left it off for a little while but she started chomping on the stitches so I had to put it back on. :( She's had it on for a couple of hours now so perhaps she's resigned to the fact she has to wear it.

Winnie Collar

She has eaten some biscuits and had a drink so she doesn't seem to be suffering too much from the anesthetic. I'm trying to ration her food because I don't think she should be having too much so soon after the operation. It's hard though because she must be starving because the last time she ate was over 24 hours ago.

She's already shown signs of playing - catching her own tail and pushing around one of her little mice. However, her tiredness has got the better of her and right now she is fast asleep. (She's lying down now... not asleep on her feet like in the photo below.)

Sleepy Winnie Collar

Winnie seems to have come out of the whole ordeal quite well but, unfortunately, the vet has some battle scars. They were going to do a post-op blood test to check her kidneys and liver but they couldn't hold her still long enough to actually get a sample. The vet was on the receiving end of her claws! It was the same vet who tried giving her an injection on our last visit and ended up loosing grip on the needle so it was hanging out of her neck. I think Winnie remembered him and thought it was payback time. Way to go Winnie! ;)

Awh, poor Winnie. *squishes her gently* She looks so cute with the collar on, though. hee.

How long does she have to wear it? And do you have to take her back to the vet to get her stitches taken out, or are they the dissolving kind?

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She does look cute but she's breaking my heart too. I'm sure she's fine but she just looking at those big eyes staring back. :(

She'll probably have to wear it for a few days. I was initially told she would have to wear it until Tuesday when she goes back for her post-op check up, but the vet said I could take it off before then as long as she doesn't lick the stitches too much. I'll see how she goes over the next day or so.

The stitches will need to be taken out in about 10 days time.

Yeah, that'd break my heart, too. :( I can't handle pathetic kitty staring. I melt whenever Aidan looks at me like that. He knows just how to work me, I swear.

Here's hoping she behaves so she can take it off! :D

Winnie lasted until about 10:00am yesterday morning before she pulled the collar off again. I guess asking her to keep it on for more than 18 hours was just too much to ask. So much for wearing it until Tuesday. *lol*

She's okay though. In fact, she's pretty much back to her normal self, running around like the mad thing she is. And to think I'm meant to be keeping her calm and restrict her activities. I'd love to know how I'm supposed to do that!!! :D

aww poor Winnie *pets her*
Im glad it wend ok, hope she is feeling all better soon!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

It's kind of sad looking at her with her 'bonnet' on.
I'm sure she'll be back to her old self within a few days or once she gets the plastic off her head! :)

poor Winnie! she looks so morose in that first pic! *strokes her gently*

i hope she feels good soon

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Yeah, she doesn't look happy at all. :(
I think she's okay except for the collar and once she gets that off she'll be fine. :) In fact, I'm sure we'll have trouble trying to keep her quiet and stop her running around too much!

From: [identity profile] vella-amor-dm.livejournal.com

LOL! well let's hope she's up to wearing your floor thin asap XD

Poor Winnie! She is so cute and sweet! And growing up with speed of the wind!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She is growing up so fast! She has almost tripled her weight since I got her two months ago. I think she's going to be a big cat. ;)
However, having said all that with the collar on she looks all little again. :)

Me too! It was a long day today, waiting to hear that it all went fine. It was certainly a relief once I knew it had. :)

*captions pic*
What have you done to me human girl? I thought you loved me *meow*

She'll be fine :D

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I bet that's exactly what she's thinking. :(

She seems fine now. Back to her usual self, running around like nothing happened at all. She pulled the collar off herself yesterday morning and since she hasn't really bothered with her wound at all, we've left it off. She a lot happier now. :)

Oh'm'gosh poor darling. Glad to hear she's as well as can be. Lol @ at being so feisty after her surgery and seeking revenge on the poor vet. I hope that the next time you have to take her back he/she suddenly doesn't decide he/she has to vacation in America or something ;)

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I fully expect to have an additional fee for visits to the vet from now on. It will be listed on the invoice as 'Danger Money'. ;D

Ahhhh! In my family, that's known as The Cone of Silence! I have no idea why either. *grin* My Keyser has to wear one of those (he's wearing it right now) for a recurring rash he gets on his leg. I'll have to find some pics...he looks so pathetic in it. Just like when Sam lost his shoe!

I'm glad she's home & doing well! Poor vet! *laughs*

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

OMG! Someone here called it 'The Cone of Silence' too!!! *lol* It was when she first got out of her cage and she was still a little sleepy and the weight of the collar was bothering her. She just stopped walking and putting her head down towards the ground and the collar, or 'cone', completely covered her little head. :(

Poor Keyser. It's a shame you can't explain to them that they can't lick where they shouldn't, if you know what I mean. Then they wouldn't have to wear the silly things. :(

Winnie pulled her collar off yesterday morning but she's hasn't been paying any attention to the wound so we've left it off.

Awwww.... poor baby! I feel for both of you. I'm sure she's already feeling a lot better today, though, right?

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

It seems the collar was the only thing bothering her and she pulled that off herself yesterday morning. Since then she's been fine. :)

She is pretty much back to her old self, running around all crazy like. I'm meant to be 'limiting her activities' but I'm not having much luck. *lol*

From: [identity profile] blackbirdj2.livejournal.com

I'm glad the operation went fine and Winnie is already back to her usual playful self! :D

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She's definitely back to herself now - running and jumping and climbing!!! She's freaking me out! *lol* Once she pulled the collar off herself yesterday morning there's been no stopping her. If only humans could recover from operations so well. ;)

From: [identity profile] whimsywinx.livejournal.com

Awww, poor little kitten!! She does not look happy in that cone. *scratches her ears*

She's a Winchester, alright, though.

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She would have appreciated the scratch behind the ears when she had the collar on. She kept going to scratch and would just scratch the plastic collar. ;)

She wriggled out of the collar yesterday morning and we haven't put it back on. She's much happier without it on. :D

From: [identity profile] vanillamagick.livejournal.com

Poor Winnie - I hope she get the collar off soon
(and she's a beautiful looking girl ♥)

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She wriggled out of the collar yesterday morning and we haven't put it back on. She's much much happier now, and she hasn't been scratching or worried about her stitches at all. In fact, she's back to her old self. :)

Thanks. :) These have been better photos of her. ;)

From: [identity profile] tariel22.livejournal.com

Awww, poor sweetie! The way she looks in that first pic is breaking my heart, poor baby. And she fell asleep sitting up? Awww, again. I'm glad the operation went smoothly. She'll be all better in no time, I'm sure. Too bad you don't have some of that WB ointment Jared likes so much.

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Winnie looks so sad, doesn't she? :( She was so tired but she couldn't get comfortable with that collar on so, yep, she fell asleep sitting up for a little while. She figured it out in the end and managed to sleep lying down overnight.

She pulled the collar off by herself yesterday morning and we haven't put it back on her. She's so much happier now as the stitches don't seem to be bothering her at all, and she's back to running around like the crazy cat she is! I'm meant to be trying to keep her calm and restrict her activities... Lets just say I'm not having much luck with that! ;D

From: [identity profile] deluweil.livejournal.com

Ohhhh poor thing...*pet her gently*

I hope she won't have top wear it for long..

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She made sure she didn't have to wear it long - she wriggled out of it yesterday morning!!! *lol*

She's so much happier without it and she's hasn't been paying any attention to the stitches, so I haven't put it back on.

She's back to running around all crazy like... just like she normally does. ;)

From: [identity profile] rose-janice.livejournal.com

I'm so glad it went well. Winnie's a fighter! :D

The collar is soooooo cute, seriously.

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

She's definitely a fighter. I was checking her stitches yesterday and suddenly thought, 'How in the world are they going to get them out?' They had trouble holding her down to give her an injection and cutting stitches out is going to take much longer. I reckon you'll be able to hear Winnie carrying on from where you are when they try. ;)
