Steve Carlson Stripped Down

Thanks to raputathebuta I've been listening to Steve Carlson's new album, Stripped Down, via his website He's recorded an awesome version of Be My Baby and I can't wait to get the album and OMG there are only nine sleeps to go! \O/ Finger's crossed it's available on Aussie iTunes straight away.

Besides listening to the new songs, I was poking around and stumbled across the lyrics section for the new album.

Am I the last person to know Steve co-wrote a couple of tracks with a certain 'J.Ackles'?

I feel so guilty that my brain goes so easily to a slashy place. *shakes head*
But it was just that Steve is singing about 'someone' and the first two lines made me think of Jensen in that still from 3x13 where he's cracking up lauging while sitting with the the two party guests. :D It all made perfect sense in my mind.

I'm not sure if Jensen sings on this album. I believe he sang on Steve's first two albums, Spot on the Corner and Rollin' On. Jensen also recorded a song recently with Jason Manns, which is available for download at Jason's Myspace.

I had heard that they recorded a couple of things, like they did Crazy love and a few others but I didnt know which ones

I was listening to the two Carslon/Ackles songs but couldn't pick if Jensen was doing backing vocals. I suck at picking singing voices, and besides, Jensen didn't sound anything like Jensen on the J&J single :)
Ooh, I really like Just Another Goodbye too. And All that I Ever Wanted (another sad one).

thats true but of course Robyn is also very tired and he brain is not functioning and the recording was with Jason not Steve, *head desks* yeah Im tired its been a long day, what was my name again? lol
yeah those are sad, but awesome! I hope we can also get on the 6th! *crosses fingers* he sang Be My Baby at the Eyecon Platnium Patry :)

OMG! I think I'd be beyond excited if Steve and Jensen released a 'single' like Jason and Jensen did. *bounces at the thought* (and I haven't even had any Twizzlers today!)
One thing about Steve I find intriguing is how he has this 'thing' with re-recording a song from a previous album. This album it's Without You. Previously he's re-recorded Wasted Jaimie and Pinata Novia. Does he have extra space on the disc and can't think of new songs? Does he dislike the older versions? *ponders*
Hearing him sing Be My Baby would have been great. I've always loved that song and now I've heard it in Carlson's husky voice, I love it even more. :D

it was really great, sadly the room was pretty crappy for enhancing vocals but he still sounded amazing

I'm still listening to the new album and I've just realised 'One Thing' is on this one too. It was also on Rollin' On. What's Steve playing at?
That's it! I need to go to a convention just to ask him about it. *lol*
I love his husky voice so much and the one song I've heard him sing live (on the Kane Live in London CD) he sounds even Husky. I'm sure the man gargles razor blades before hitting the recording studio or stage. *sigh*

You Belong with Me is also another song he reworked for this album. \o/ New music is love. I haven't been able to stop playing Just Another Goodbye and now I have a preview of an album I have been waiting since November to buy. Thank you for the heads up!

Hi, I spoke to Steve last month at EyeCon and here is what he said (as close to verbatim as I can remember) about these two songs:

"You know Jensen & I used to be roommates. He's a great artist and musician (or words to that effect). In fact, he and I composed two of the songs on my next album while we were roommates. So be sure to check it out when it's released next month."

I think, since he was pimping the album, that if Jensen sang too he'd certainly have said so. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks so much for that information!
I was wondering if they were recent collaborations or if they were older ones. You've answered that question for me. I can just imagine them hanging out on the lounge room floor, beers by their sides, guitars on their laps, strummin' away. :D
I'm guessing Steve would have mentioned if Jensen did any singing on the new album too.

I'm so jealous of everyone who has seen and heard him live. *pouts* One day I will too... or at least I can dream I will. It's not really that far to Australia from L.A. ;)
I think I'm going to have to put the previous three albums on heavy rotation over the next week in the lead up to the new album release :D

I've been listening all night. I've never heard his music before, but I have a ton of people on my flist who rave about him. I love Be My Baby.

He's got a fairly distinctive voice, hasn't he? I think it comes from gargling too many sharp objects ;)
