Our little girl sure is growing up! With every passing day she's getting more and more adventurous. I've mentioned before that I worry when I let her outside and today's Winchester Wednesday demonstrates why. She just doesn't seem to have any

It's become part of our daily routine to go outside when I get home from work. We only spend 30 minutes or so outside but she loves it. This evening when I got home she run up to me meowing as if to say, 'Thank god you're home. Now, come on. Let's get going outside. NOW!"

This isn't the best photo - I wish it was actually in focus - but I wanted to include it so you could see how 'tall' she is. She has the longest legs. Mum has come to the conclusion that she is mostly tabby but is at least some part Siamese. It's not as silly as it sounds because, a) Her build, b) She's somewhat crazy, and c) She meows loudly and frequently. If she gets locked in somewhere against her will, when she gets let out she gives you a piece of her mind. I can't understand meow but I'm pretty sure translated to English it would make a sailor blush. *nods*

Winnie the Vampire Slayer.
(I have no idea why there is a stake next to her.)

Hey, something to climb on. \O/
Notice her shiny new collar? It's still too big for her - she must have a really skinny neck or something - but it has a special safety catch on it so if it gets caught on anything it will come undone. The collar is blue with little reflective fish on it and a blue bell.

Our new garden gnome. :)

Hey, something taller to climb! \O/ \O/

Hey, something much taller to climb! \O/ \O/ \O/

If only she could get down. *sigh* She needed to be rescued tonight. She may have been able to get down by herself eventually but because it was already after 8PM we didn't really have time to wait so we got the ladder out. On Saturday I plan to let her out in the morning and see what she gets up to. If she climbs a tree she'll have time to get down in her own good time. Of course, that might mean she spends the whole day up the tree. :)

The tree she climbed this evening is nothing compared to the size of the tree she's sniffing around here. I have no idea how tall it is but it must be close to beanstalk-tall or at least Magic Faraway Tree-tall. The first branches are at least 20 feet up so I have no idea how she is getting down from there if she decides to go up there. Hopefully it won't hold much interest for her because there is nothing to climb on or hide in.

Check this out! Hope it doesn't gross you out too much but Winnie lost her first tooth! It was lucky she was biting my hand at the time it fell out or I might never have noticed it. It's funny, before Winnie I never knew kittens lost their milk teeth and I've had a lot of cats. Kittens really are just like babies.
Guest Pet of the Week:
The guest this week isn't actually a pet but she does have fur and likes to climb trees so she has enough in common with Winnie to include here.
Remember the photo I posted of the CFA (Country Fire Authoriy) Officer giving the little koala a drink of water after a bushfire had passed through? A follow up story on the koala, called Sam, and other wildlife affected by the fires was posted today on news.com.au with photos and a video.

Sam the Koala having a long cool drink after being found by CFA officers. She drank three bottles of water. Koalas don't usually drink water so she must have been really really thirsty. They usually get everything they need from the eucalyptus leaves they munch on all day long.

Sam the Koala recovering at a Wildlife shelter. Sam suffered burns to her paws and is on a drip and pain medication but I think she's going to be OK. Apparently she has an admirer. There's a male koala at the shelter who keeps putting his arm around her. N'awwww...
Video of the CFA guys finding Sam. It's taken on a mobile phone so it's not high quality but the image improves a little way in. Stick with it, it's pretty cute.

Winnie the Amazing Jungle Cat!!! She cracks me up to no end.

Winnie shows no fear! I'm sure if we had ropes hanging from the trees she would be swinging from them. ;)

Enough gushing about my cat... WINNIE! She's so the cutest thing ever and you are an amazing photographer. I'm so sad for the koalas...
Also, we miss you on plurk, love!

The bell is a handy way to find Winnie too. Epsecially when she's outside.
Although, I just need to look up a tree and I'll generally find her.
Winnie is fairly photogenic, I think. Makes my job a little easier except for the part where she's never still unless she's asleep. ;)
Sam is one of the lucky animals, that's for sure. :)
I just don't have time during the day at work to Plurk and when I'm home and on the 'puter you guys are all tucked up in bed. Stupid timezones. I did log in yesterday to find I had zero karma. I lost my dancing bananas! :(

do you have a garden in your house hun? and when it's time to come back inside does she come willingly?
woah! she climbed that tree? thanks God she knew how to come down...
I heard all those news in television darling. They keep us updated here.
I always pray for the situation to be over soon.

These photos were taken in the backgarden at home. Once she's out there it's tough getting her to come inside. She won't come when she's called so I have to catch her. That can be fun sometimes! Once she's back inside she seems to know her time outside is up for the day so she does complain too much. Usually she's too exhausted to do anything and just flops on the floor. :)
The weather at the moment is assisting the firefighters with their efforts to get the fires under control. So that's good.

Awww! Winnie's growing up. My cats talk to me, too. Not as much as my parents' cat, who will be living with us for a few days while they're away. She's half my cats' size and chases them around. It's sad.

Your poor cats being chased around by their little visitor. *pets them*
Do the three of them generally get on okay? Obviously your two do but, besides being chased, do they not mind another cat coming to stay?

I saw that koala vid all over my flist when the fires were happening. I'm glad at least one poor creature was rescued. And I think the video has helped a lot of people. We need symbols of hope in the face of these unendurable tragedies.
