★ G'day mates! Hope youse all had an ace Christmas!

★ Not real sure why I decided to go all Aussie on you there. Sorry about that. :D

★ I've just got back from a good friend's birthday party. She turned five today. I bought her the board game 'Mouse Trap' and I made her a little bracelet with photos of her and her mum, dad & brother on it. She was a little concerned Mouse Trap was a boys game. Now I'm concerned. because I never had Mouse Trap when I was a kid and I always wanted it. Is it a boys game?

Melbourne (where I live) has been on Stage 3A Water Restrictions because it never rains here anymore. Well, technically it does still rain in Melbourne but not in the right places - Eg. Never over the water catchments. Stage 3A means we can only water the garden on Sundays and Wednesdays (even house numbers on Saturday and Tuesdays); watering is not permitted at all on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays; watering of lawns/grass is not permitted at anytime; washing of cars with a hose is not permitted at anytime but a bucket can be used to clean windows, mirrors and lights only.

We are asked to reduce our water consumption in other ways too like don't leave taps running while you brush your teeth (well, duh!), don't wash vegies under running water, limit your showers to four-minutes, etc. We even received a little four minute sand timer in the mail.

Sadly, I still have issues with four minute showers. I love my shower in the morning - it helps me wake up. As a compromise I now limit my shower to one full song. I have a shower radio and I'm pretty sure the average song on the radio would be about four minutes long.

I'm hanging out for the day I jump in the shower and a Meatloaf song starts playing or, better still, 'American Pie' comes on the radio!

★ New Leverage tomorrow! \O/ It premieres here in Australia on January 14th on FOX 8 which is all kinds of exciting. Even this little chocolatey Koala is excited because he's got Christian Kane's initials etched on his tummy.

Yeah, so I could probably use a "You know you may watch too much Leverage when..." tag.
(The CK actually stands for 'Caramello Koala' BTW...)

★ I missed my "Pig 'n a Poke" post last week... Did anyone notice? ;D

Caramello Koala DOES look a lot like Christian Kane!

I still have my 4 min showers. Given how much water industry wastes... I mean did you know they were using normal drinking water to water Flemington Racecourse? And its next to the damn river. GRrr.

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I think Caramello looks like Christian to. If Christian Kane turns up on Leverage wearing overalls no one is going to convince me Christian and Caramello aren't the same person. I mean, I'm sure no one has seen them in the same room together...

I didn't know about the water for Flemington. That's just crazy. As you said, it's next to the river but then there's probably all kinds of restrictions about taking water from the river. *sigh*

mouse trap is soo not a boys game, I always wanted it too hee
I never got a timer, I feel unloved lol
4 min showers are so hard!
lol nice pick up with the koala!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Thanks, I was pretty sure it was a co-ed game.
You aren't missing out on much with the timer. I heard that some of them only ran for 3 minutes and other ran for 5 minutes. I timed ours and wouldn't you know it, it ran for exactly 4 minutes.
4 minutes in the shower flies by... and I don't even have long hair to wash!
I'm not sure if I should start calling them Christian Koala or Caramello Kane. I'm leaning towards the latter. ;)

From: [identity profile] raputathebuta.livejournal.com

I loved Mousetrap when I was a kid! Totally NOT just a boy's game!

The CK stands for Christian Kane. You'll never be able to convince me otherwise! *grin*

Mmmmmmm...Leverage! I'm really enjoying it quite a bit.

Four minute showers?!?!?! Yikes. I suppose I'd have to learn to make do, but man, that would suck.

I missed a LOT last week. Darn Christmas! *grin*

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Thanks! I didn't think it was a boys game. :)
I'm not sure if seeing the initials CK and immediately thinking of Christian Kane is a sign of watching too much Leverage or reading too much RPS. I'm guessing, it's not too much Leverage since there's only been five episodes. ;)
It does suck. I really miss my long showers. I didn't have them every day but some days they were really nice.
Christmas has the affect of making us all kinds of busy. :)

Happy Winchester Wednesday to you now, Katy! *squishes*

(The CK actually stands for 'Caramello Koala' BTW...)

LOL, I love that I didn't need that explanation to understand. :D

LOL, I love that I didn't need that explanation to understand. :D

Haha! I just didn't want our non-Aussie friends thinking we randomly stamp random letters into random chocolate native animals over here, ya know? ;P

Hope you're having a good time north of the border. *hugs*

From: [identity profile] rose-janice.livejournal.com

Ahahaha, true that.

I had an okay time but I missed you guys so much! And no more 10 hour long road trips ever. Waaaaaay too tired for that. :(

*hugs back*

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

It's a lovely thought, isn't it?
Why hasn't Hersheys or Cadbury or Mars created celebrity shaped chocolate bars. I think there's a market for those. ;)

Mouse Trap is definitely NOT a boys game! I have three sisters (no brothers) and we had Mouse Trap when we were kids. It's an awesome game!!

4 minute showers??? There is NO WAY I could do that!

YAY for new Leverage tonight!!!! I can't wait! And that Caramello Koala is absolutely adorable!!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Thanks for confirming Mouse Trap isn't a boys game. :) I remember playing it when I was a kid at friends houses. I also loved it.

You kind of get used to the four minute showers but I'd love not to have to worry about spending too long in there.

Last week's Leverage (The Bank Shot Job) was awesome!!! I thought it was hilarious. I watched this week's last night but I need to watch it again. I always seem to get more out of a second viewing. :)

From: [identity profile] bananabehr.livejournal.com

*clings* I had a great Christmas! I can't believe that I still haven't sent your stuff to you! *fails at life*

I need to watch Leverage now, everyone keeps saying so.

Also, no way in hell I could shower for only 4 minutes... takes me at least 10 minutes, and that's after the water finally gets hot.

I don't think Mouse Trap is a boys' game... it's just a game!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

You do need to watch Leverage!!! It's pure escapism television... doesn't take itself too seriously but still well written and fairly well acted.

Aah, 10 minute showers... How I miss those. I used to take really long showers. In fact, I'm probably the sole reason we've run out of water now! ;)

From: [identity profile] blackbirdj2.livejournal.com

I didn't know about the water restrictions in Melbourne. Wow. I would die if I had to restrict my showers to four minutes. When I was staying in Sweden last summer, I stayed in a youth hostel that was a rebuilt train, so it was really cosy but small and cramped, but anyway....I digress. What I wanted to say was that in that youth hostel the showers had to be paid for, only a coin or so, but one coin gave you about one minute of hot water. If you wanted more you had to put another coin in, but then you had to leave the shower cubicle so no one ever did that. I never knew one minute could go so fast. O_o One minute of shower is so not enough, four minutes isn't much better!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

One minute of hot water is not long enough to wash anything but I guess it's one way to keep operating costs down.

At least with four minutes you do have time to shampoo and condition your hair and wash yourself. One minute would be barely enough time to get wet!

From: [identity profile] bloggingchick.livejournal.com

OMG there is no way I can take a 4 minute shower. I try for as short as possible but it takes me that long to rinse the shampoo from my hair. No I would not consider getting it cut short just to stay within the 4 minute time limit. Actually my hair is so dry I just don't wash it every day. Also I'm a shower shaver. Ok, ok TMI *facepalm*

btw I did miss Pig 'n a Poke last week.

Also? I've been having cravings for chocolate and that picture makes me want more now. Fortunately I have an ample supply of "Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Promises" They have the word Dove on them and makes me think of...Sam n Dean. What, isn't that who you think of, too?

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

*lol* Yeah, 4 minute showers put an end to shower shaving... especially if you need to wash your hair during the same shower. I'd have the shower police on my doorstep! (OK, there is no such thing as the 'Shower Police'... yet.)

Yum! I like Dove chocolate. I'm not sure it's ever made me think about Sam'n'Dean but I love that it makes you think about them. ;)

My Christmas was pretty good.

Awww, cute presents. I never had MouseTrap, either, but I wouldn't think of it as a boy's game. Better kick those silly stereotypes outta her now.

I don't think I could handle a 4 minute shower. That'd be such a tease!

New Leverage tonight!!!! *happy dance* (I'm listening to Kane right now!)

I missed you, but we did get a Winnie post . . .

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Glad to hear your Christmas was good. It seems a long time ago now, doesn't it?

With a 4-minute shower it seems as soon as you get in you have to get out again.

How funning was last week's 'Bank Job' episode of Leverage? It's my favourite episode so far. :) Last nights seemed pretty good too. I still have to watch it again though because I seem to get much more out of them the second time around.

It was a bit sad not doing a 'Tuesday' post. It's the first one I've missed in I don't know how long but a long time. I made sure I didn't miss Winnie though. ;)

Awh. I had Mouse Trap as a kid. I didn't think it was a boys game. :(

Man, I think four minute showers would suck. My son is the king of the twenty minute shower, so we put him on a timer, but we give him six minutes. He's 14! How much time can he need in the shower, seriously? I take around ten minute showers, though. And I always turn the water off when I brush my teeth. I thought that was common sense?

Leverage is an awesome show. :D Mmmm, Christian Kane. He's so sexy.

I missed you last week! *snugs you *

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I didn't think it was a boys game. I was really surprised when she asked.

Twenty minute showers... I remember them well. ;) Yep, I thought turning the water off when you brush your teeth was common sense too.

Christian looked particularly good in last night's Leverage, I thought, when he had to 'chat up' that woman. ;) Funny!

I need to get more organised so I don't miss out on my regular postings. *hugs*

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Haha! Yeah, as I said, I'm not real sure what that came from... I never talk like that!

From: [identity profile] tariel22.livejournal.com

Please tell your friend that there is no such thing as a boys' game. Or a girls' game, for that matter. A friend of mine has a son who desperately wanted a playhouse and a toy vacuum for Christmas. She bought him a fort and a toy lawnmower instead. That kind of stuff drives me crazy.

*steps off soapbox* Mousetrap is not a boys' game, even by stereotypical standards. And what an awesome gift! That game rocks! And the photo bracelet sounds very cool.

I'm not even gonna tell you how long my showers are. I don't think I could do a four-minute shower if my life depended on it. My dad was a career naval officer, and he made us take Navy showers growing up. That's where you get wet, turn off the water, soap up all over, then turn the water back on to quickly rinse off. It's what they do onboard ship to conserve fresh water. On cold mornings it's torturous! I've been rebelling against that rule since the day I moved out! :D

We had a drought here some years ago, and we had to do stuff like unhook the pipe under the sink and put a bucket there, and then use the waste water to flush the toilet. We also had a bucket in the corner of the shower for the same reason. And everyone put big bricks in their toilet tanks so it would take less water to fill them up. The water company sent us buttons in the mail that said, "Don't be a drip." People spray painted their dead lawns green because no watering was allowed at all. That experience is one of the reasons I always love it when it rains.

I need to watch Leverage. It seems to be a Supernatural fangirl requirement because of the CK connection. :) BTW, did you already know that the new season of Kyle XY starts on January 12 here?

Happy New Year!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

It's sad that there still seems to be a division between what are designated as boys toys and girls toys.

I'm sure once she plays the game she'll like it.

Navy showers! *shudders* I don't blame you for taking long showers now! And besides, since you used so little water growing up you can use a little more now. :)

I admit, I started watching Leverage because of CK but if he wasn't in it I think I'd still watch it. However, I probably wouldn't have known about it if he wasn't in it so I'm glad he is in it. :)

Yes, Kyle XY! I'm counting down the days. In November, IMDB said it was coming back early December and then they changed the date back to January. It'll be the first time I watch it 'real time', so to speak. I only watched the first two seasons late last year after they had both aired. I'm looking forward to having the episodes spaced out. :)

And besides, since you used so little water growing up you can use a little more now.

I like the way you think! That's what I'm going to tell my husband the next time he makes a joke about how long I take in the shower.

You've gotta check this out... The show's been on for, what, a month and already there's fic! [livejournal.com profile] geteven_getfic

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about Nathan/Eliot slash.. Kinda weird how slash only seems to work for Sam/Dean or Jensen/Jared or Chris/Steve... Tell me what you think!

4 minute showers are not a problem for me at home. Our water heater is busted so we get only 5 minutes of hot water for each shower anyway. That's why I love staying at Aunty's apartment so much - I can even run the dishwasher and do laundry with warm water!

We've had rain rain and more rain. In fact, last Friday, a freak electrical storm knocked power out on the entire island for about 12 hours. Thankfully, we were at home, cleaning house, so when the power went out at 6:30, we just sort of hunkered down around the battery powered radio. With no charcoal for grilling, (not even a can opener since I brought over to the apartment for the week) we ended up eating Doritos and KitKat bars for dinner.

It's kind of eerie when everything is pitch black. If it hadn't been raining, it would have been a great time to look at the stars, you know?

Anyway, it took at least 24 hours for some people to get their electricity back. We didn't even try to drive into town until most of the traffic lights were working again. Besides, there was no way I was gonna walk 33 flights of stairs to this apartment...

Hey, the girls have Mouse Trap and they love it. Well, playing it, that is... setting it up is quite the task, don't you think?

I'm working my way backwards through your posts so forgive me for the spam. Miss you much!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

More Leverage Fanfic! Awesome! :)

I've only read the one you sent me the link to the other day, the Hardison/Eliot one. That was funny but I'm not sure I see that pairing. To be honest, I see Nate/Eliot more. I might have to check some of them out. As well as the ones you've listed, I'm rather fond of Jensen/Steve too. :D

Sounds like quite an adventure without power for that long. I've always thought I couldn't live without Doritos and Kit Kats. You guys may have proved my theory! :)

I haven't played Mouse Trap for years but I do remember it being a pain to set up.

Haha, no worries about the comment. Sorry it's taking me so long to work back through your comments. *hugs*
