1) I made it back to Melbourne - my favourite place in the whole wide world - last night! Why is it the trip home always seems so much longer than the trip up?
2) Thank you for all the messages of commiseration over the weekend after my beloved Storm's capitulation in the Grand Final. *hugs you all*
3) We began daylight savings on Sunday morning. This year it changed a month earlier than normal which is all kinds awesome because we get a whole extra month of it still being light at 7:00pm or later. Anyway, because there was a change to the date my phone didn't automatically update. *sigh*
So, for the past two days I've been an hour behind everyone else. It's because the phone is running Windows Mobile and it picks up the time from the operating system (or something). I tried changing the time zone but that didn't work. For some reason the phone wouldn't accept that I was in Magadan! These electronic devices are way too smart these days. I searched on-line but I had trouble finding a patch with the updated dates so I rang my mobile service provider today, thinking they could/would help.
They have one of those annoying, patronising, and overly cheerful voice recognition answering services where an electronic person, a woman in this case, asks you a gazillion questions before you are allowed to speak to an actual real-life person. Well, this morning the electronic voice asked me one too many questions. It wasn't my proudest moment but I was alone in my car at the time and I kind of told 'her' none to politely where she could go. She stopped mid-sentence and for a second I thought, 'OMG, I've offended a computer! She's going to hang up on me!' But no. There was only the briefest of pauses before she was back on the line and in her politest voice she said, "OK. Please wait while I transfer you to one of our operators." \O/ Whoo Hoo! I've heard pressing '8' or '0' or '1' repeatedly during the call will get you through to a real person but it seems telling the computer to 'Fudge' Off will also get you human contact. Computers do take things so literally, don't they. :D
After all that I got put through to three different humans, none of who could help me. *sigh* I eventually managed to find a patch on the 'net and install it. It didn't work at first but when I changed the time zone to Hobart the time changed to the correct time. Now, if only it believed I was in Magadan to start with it would have all be good ;)
4) My Pushing Daisies season one DVDs and my Kyle XY soundtrack arrived from Amazon today. Kyle has me captivated. I love him and his little show. And what's not to love about Pushing Daisies? I'm looking forward to reminiscing with Ned, Chuck, Olive, Emerson, Vivian and Lily.
5) Happy Tuesday!
