Hey, Tuesday! Pig 'n a Poke!
Kubrick, one of the goldfish I was fish sitting died this morning. I like to think he's swimming happily in the big fish pond in the sky. The other fish appear to be unaffected by his passing.

Rainbow the cat is sitting next to me as I type this. She's sitting on the table (naughty cat!), on a map of North America. Her butt is covering Southern California and Arizona, her body is covering parts of New Mexico, Texas and Mexico, and her tail is some where around the Grand Canyon. Located to the left of the fan on the laptop, which is blowing out warm air, it's the warmest part of the map. She's not a silly cat.

This part of the post isn't going to mean a whole lot to about 95% of you who read this but I was a bit excited this evening when I caught the train home from work with Billy Slater! In reality it was only a picture of Billy Slater but there he was, his cheeky face smiling down from the wall of the train above my head. Go Storm!

Billy Slater is just one of the superstars of Melbourne's own, Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club.
Seeing an ad for a footy game on a train might not seem like a big deal but Melbourne Storm don't getany a lot promotion about town so I always get a bit of thrill seeing things like this. It's probably similar to the feeling you get seeing Supernatural promoted anywhere ;)
Founded in 1997, and playing it's first game in 1998, Melbourne Storm is only a young club but it is an extremely successful club. A handful of established and well known players plus a whole bunch of misfits not not wanted by any other club were brought together in a non-rugby league town and went on to finish in third place in their first year. The following year, 1999, they won their first Premiership. Since their inception Storm have only missed the finals once (2001) and this year will be no exception. With only two weeks of the 2008 season left the Storm boys are sitting pretty at the #1 spot on the ladder. If we win the next two games we are guaranteed to finish first (Minor Premiers) for the third year in row. Last year we went on to win the Grand Final (Premiership) for the second time.
Despite being such a successful team on the field Melbourne Storm still struggle to attract a crowd. Why? Because historically Rugby League has been confined to the east coast of Australia (New South Wales & Queensland) whereas in all other states (Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia) Australian Rules Football (AFL) is the most popular sport. There is so much rivalry between the two codes it would be kind of funny if it wasn't so detrimental to rugby league. Why they can't just co-exist in peace, is beyond me. Also, Melbourne Storm, being based in Victoria, are pretty much the outsiders even though the competition they play in is called the NATIONAL Rugby League. (There is also a team from New Zealand but that's okay because depending on which side of the Tasman Sea you live on, either New Zealand is the 8th Australian state or Australia is the West Island ;)
Combine these two factors and it results in us being drowned out by AFL coverage and not receiving any help from the NRL in promoting the game in Victoria...
Hence, the excitement of seeing anything promoting Storm :D

Rainbow is very smart... though, I kind of take umbridge to her sitting on me, being that I am in Southern California... hehehe!
Sport squee FTW!

Please accept my apology on Rainbow's behalf for her sitting on you. I'll move the laptop over and encourage her to move east next time :P
I'm not usually a big sports fan but I love my Storm. I've only missed one of their home games in the past 10 years and that was only because Jared Padalecki was in Sydney and I went to see him instead ;)

I love your devotion to your team! And yes, I get that same thrill whenever I see anything promoting Supernatural! Or Smallville, for that matter.

I do love my Storm Boys! And because it's so close to finals time it's getting pretty exciting. To see the promo shot on the train was an added bonus. :)

I'm sorry to hear about Kubrick. It's been over all, a bad week for pets on my various boards.
And she's sitting on some of the warmest states!! Very smart kitty.
Your rugby players are rather attractive. Dallas gives me a little thrill down the spine looking all stern like that. (Although, Cooper Cronk? That name cracks me up.)

It has? That's no good. Hopefully, the bad week is coming to an end. :(
Yup. I think she's ready for Winter here to be over. A bit of wishful 'sitting' ;)
They are kind of attractive.
*inserts another not-so-random Storm photo*
From left: Cooper Cronk, Dallas Johnson and Brett White.
Cooper Cronk has the best name in
sportinghistory! He's had it from birth too. ;)no subject
Mmmmm . . . burly guys . . .

Very sorry to hear about Kubrick's passing. I'm sure he's in a happy place.
Got your email this morning just as I was running out the door. Thanks for the link! It's about time for a new mood theme, yeah? :D
*hugs and more hugs*
Have a great day!

I'm sure Kubrick is in a happy place, swimming away 'til his heart's content.
It's a great mood theme, isn't it. It was made by one of my fellow 'Team!Shortbus' (Melbourne) girls. It must have taken her so long to do and it's so very pretty :)
Hope you're having a good week :) How's 'Tim' coming along?
*hugs*

:) Good luck with the football promotion, sorry that your team isn't getting much, I have two friends that love football like crazy, so I hear ya :)

Oh, I'm 100% positive Rainbow's position on the map wasn't a reflection on the areas of the US she was sitting on :) It really was just the warmest spot :D
Thanks :) Sometimes I wonder about the attraction of football. Every now and then I realise it's kind of ridiculous sitting for a couple of hours in the cold and rain watching a bunch of dudes kick and throw something around a park but I love it all the same :D

2. *pets Rainbow* At least she's not sitting on Michigan!
3. GO STORM!!!! I get the same way about the Red Wings. Hey, those guys are cute...especially Cronk & Smith. Got any nekkid pics of them?! *wink*

2. I think Rainbow heard a rumour it gets cold in Michigan ;)
3. I read your posts about the Red Wings and even though I don't know anything about them (except what you've posted) or the sport itself, I can totally relate to your excitement and your devotion to them. :)
And sorry, no naked photos of Cronk or Smith. I'll keep an eye out though, 'k ;)
