♥ Things are finally getting back to normal after the BIG trip to Sydney. And by things I mean my need for more sleep and my stupid throat and nose. Now if only I could get rid of this cough I've developed. Seriously, if I cough up a lung or two in the next couple of days I won't be at all surprised.

♥ Guess I should just be grateful it's not Pig Flu. At least I don't think it's Pig Flu... OMG!

♥ Now I just have to get back into the swing of this LJ thing.

Supernatural last week was great. Y/N?
I was totally spoiled for the 'surprise' character but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how they were going to fit into it the scheme of things. I think they did it excellently. From where I was sitting there was not a shark in sight. :)

Question for y'all: Was 'Jump the Shark' the first time an episode title has had absolutely nothing to do with the episode? I mean most episode titles relate back - be it in an extremely obscure way these days - to the episode theme. However, JTS was purely another dig at fandom, right? *lol*

♥ I've uploaded the AHBL photos zip files to sendspace in addition to megaupload. If you are/were having trouble with MU you might want to try the sendspace links.

♥ Hope the girls don't mind me linking them but [livejournal.com profile] rose_janice, [livejournal.com profile] ragingquiet26 and [livejournal.com profile] briethehippo have compiled a great report of Day 1 from All Hell Breaks Loose here. I'm way too lazy to do one for myself so I'm going use theirs for memory's sake. One thing though... I'm not sure how I feel about being known as KatyMum! Those young wipper-snappers... no respect!!!

♥ I totally want a Leverage CONvention now. With the whole cast. It'd be brilliant. Even the theme of the show lends itself to the name con brilliantly. The Con Con. \O/ July is far too far away to wait for new episodes. *pouts*

♥ Don't look at the time stamp on this entry. Just pretend it's still Tuesday, 'k?

Happy Tuesday!

WOO HOO! It's not the pig flu, that would SUCK!

The wikipedia definition for "jump the shark" is as follows:

"Jumping the shark is a colloquialism coined by Jon Hein and used by TV critics and fans to denote the point in a TV show or movie series' history where the plot veers off into absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary characterizations. This usually corresponds to the point where a show with falling ratings apparently becomes more desperate to draw viewers in. In the process of undergoing these changes, the TV or movie series loses its original appeal. Shows that have "jumped the shark" are typically deemed to have passed their peak.

The phrase refers to a scene in a three-part episode of the American TV series Happy Days, first broadcast on September 20, 1977. In the third of the three parts of the "Hollywood" episode, Fonzie (Henry Winkler), wearing swim trunks and his trademark leather jacket, jumps over a penned-in shark while water skiing. This was particularly ironic, in that Fonzie, famous for being a biker, had previously jumped his motorcycle for a publicity stunt—but was severely injured in the process, and very remorseful for his actions; he then learned a valuable lesson, and delivered a moral message, that taking foolish risks "isn't cool" (a clearly role-model message against popular 1970s trends of youths imitating daredevil stuntmen like Evel Knievel or Ernie Devlin). In contrast, Fonzie's later decision to take an even greater risk on water skis "to prove a point" came across as absurd in many ways (particularly since the "motorcycle jump" episode was a major point in Fonzie's character development)."

Basically, Kripke was mocking this with the premise for the episode, but the shark did not feel jumped to me. At least one reference to jumping the shark is the name of the diner "Cousin Oliver's Diner", as Cousin Oliver was the kid on the Brady Bunch who came to live with them, who was like their little brother, and considering the "jump the shark" moment for Brady Bunch. /babble

Time stamp? It is Tuesday here, dear, it's all good with me! ;)

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

lol! I kind of love that Kripke feels that he can mock the fans who help keep the show alive. :D

There used to be a website called 'Jump the Shark' which was awesome because it had a database of a heap of shows and people could submit the moment when they thought the show jumped. It doesn't seem to be around anymore or it's a sub-section of the TV Guide website or something. :(

There is also a poster on the wall in Cousin Oliver's diner for Fonzarelli Water Skiing or something to that affect. I like the prop department's attention to detail in this one. :D

I love time-zone differences sometimes. \O/

I noticed that about the jump the shark website on Thursday! I went to show it to my roommate and it kept going back to TVG and it was pissing me off! I'm so mad at the people let their license lapse and TVG stole it. DAMN THE MAN, SAVE THE EMPIRE!!!

Leverage is made of win! ZOMG IT IS ALMOST JUNE! *faints*

From: [identity profile] kros-21.livejournal.com

hi sweetie! *waves*

I'm glad you're feeling better but it sucks that you still have a bad cough.. it's not funny at all to cough that hard. *gives you some syrup*

SPN was great like always!
I was spoiled too but honestly I dind't expect for Adam to be dead from the beginning! And the whole 3rd brother thing has been handled better than I thought. :)

I don't know about the title but I'm sure Kripke had a valid reason if he called it that way.

I saw that beautiful post and it's just like heaven! :D
all cons should have a place like that.
the girls are fantastic!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Howdy. :D

The coughing is just plain annoying now. *sigh*

I agree about the handling of the third brother. I found it really sad though. Sad for all three brothers that they never got a chance to know each other and sad for Dean and Sam that Adam got to see a side of John they never knew. Watching Dean's reactions when he saw the photos of John and Adam fishing and at the baseball was kind of heartbreaking. :(

The girls did a great job with their recap of day 1. :)

*kicks your cough*

I'm glad you're feeling better and more normal.

You know, CK is used to cons and Aldis has been to one now, not to mention Mark Sheppard. I bet they could work on the rest of the cast.

. . .

Is it July yet?

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Hopefully the cough will get the message soon enough that it's not welcome anymore. Grr argh!

Having the entire cast of Leverage at a con would be awesome. Imagine them all on stage at one time? It'd be fantastically chaotic! *lol*

From: [identity profile] tariel22.livejournal.com

Somehow Pig Flu sounds even worse than Swine Flu! :)

I thought the episode was great. I accidentally saw a reference to "the third Winchester brother," but I wasn't totally spoiled. At first I was suspicious, like Dean, and then I accepted him, and then, of course, I was devastated. But I felt the worst for Dean.

I like these little references to fandom in the show. It's like Kripke likes us enough to kid around with us. We're in the club. :)

The Con Con!! That's brilliant!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Pig Flu does sound pretty bad. ;)

I found it hilarious how suspicious Dean was. I honestly thought he was going to shoot him for second there. *lol* It was a really sad episode. I felt so sorry for all three boys not having the chance to get to know each other but I felt incredibly sad for Dean and Sam, but especially Dean, watching his reaction to seeing the photos of Adam and John at the baseball and on the fishing trips. That was a side of John that Sam and Dean just never got to see. :(

YES! Exactly! I know some people have been upset with the 'mocking', especially during TMATEOTB, but I love it. It's awesome being in on the joke. ;D

I might start a petition to get The Con Con! off the ground. ;)

From: [identity profile] blackbirdj2.livejournal.com

Ooooh, Leverage con! That would be really cool. At least we don't have to wait until mid September for new episodes! July looks pretty damn close to me if I think like that! :D

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

A Leverage Con would be such a blast!
I'm really looking forward the episodes. It's great it's coming back so early but it's too bad they have such a short season. But 15 episodes is better than no episodes. :)

From: [identity profile] lucasharper.livejournal.com

Being a Happy Days fan I got the reference. Jump The Shark is a term used for TV shows at the point they just totally go crap. For Happy Days it was when Fonzie was skiing and jumped a shark, hence the term.

For Buffy for example it was when Dawn came into it.

So the reference of Jump The Shark is that if they introduced another Winchester brother that would be when the series lost it's edge and thusly jumped the shark.

I thought the title was perfect. :)

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

I agree. The title was perfect! :)

I don't remember the actual 'jump-the-shark' moment on Happy Days but I knew it was a reference to that. It's just interesting that they chose to use that reference rather than something related to the episode itself. They've used lots of song titles before so something like The Hollies, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" wouldn't have been amiss.

But I love 'Jump The Shark'. It's a nice in-joke for the fandom and in years to come when we randomly dust of the our Supernatural DVDS and glance down the list of titles seeing the name Jump the Shark will bring back a whole heap of memories of how passionate and crazy this fandom can be.

/sentimentality. *grin*

From: [identity profile] briethehippo.livejournal.com

Uggggh, I'm surprised I haven't already coughed up a long. I've been coughing ever since I left Sydney D: I hope you feel better soon Katy! AND I HOPE IT'S NOT PIG FLU :O

I really liked JTS, lots of fun SamandDean moments Always with the scissors and I liked Adam (even if it was a ghoul for like allll of the episode) and I wouldn't have minded if he stuck around a bit more. :)

Yeeeah, I'm thinking the episode title was a dig at fandom, or at least all those people who heard about the third Winchester before it aired and went "AHH WTF ARE THEY DOING? FAILLLLL" ROFL.

Oh man, a Leverage Con would be so effing awesome! And Aldis could teach all the fangirls those awesome skills he's learned, LOL!

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

Sydney has a lot to answer for ... making us sick and all!

"Always with the scissors" was brilliant! Love the continuity. It was really sad finding out that Adam was already dead. :( I admit, I experience watery eyes more than once during the episode. Of course, it could have been just because I was sick therefore I was over emotional. ;)

Kripke is evil! I love it!!!

It's funny, it was only my second reading of the report that I noticed the KatyMum reference. lol. Man, I'm so old... :)

I'm thinking of starting a Leverage Con petition. *lol* And I'm thinking it should be held in Brisbane. Where it's warm and you don't catch colds. *nods*

From: [identity profile] briethehippo.livejournal.com

It certainly does *glares* What do you have to say for yourself, huh, Sydney? >:|

Yes, I may have gotten watery eyes too, but that was because of ... allergies. Yes, allergies ;D

From: [identity profile] rose-janice.livejournal.com

D:! Don't cough up a lung, Katyface. I hope it goes away! *gives you some tea*

Supernatural was EPIC last week, for sure. :DDD

Of course we don't mind you linking, hon! Thank you so much for doing that. *hugs* We're really glad you liked it. I was too lazy to write one of my own up too so we just collaborated, lmao.

A Leverage Con would be really awesome. <3

Ahaha, it's totally Tuesday in my world. *coff*

From: [identity profile] katysam.livejournal.com

So far, so good on the coughing-up-a-lung front. Both lungs still where they should be.

The Pig Flu stories are alternating between freaking me the hell out and making me laugh. It's kinda crazy.

I loved your write-up of day 1. *hugs*

A Leverage Con in Australia would be awesomer. Y/Y

Ehh, Tuesday/Wednesday. They both end in 'day'. Close enough in my books. :)
